Apparently it suits the politics of the Catholic Church to fast track the canonization of the late Pope John Paul II. But coming from the same organization that wasn’t too long ago selling tickets to heaven in the guise of indulgences (which was enough to send Martin Luther into the heretical column), are cynical Catholics to be much surprised?
As Pope Benedict XVI jockeys, weaves and dodges trying to keep the faithful in line, one wonders if a new organization might come to light offering disaffected modern Catholics a theological refuge?
